Aizen was the strong and peace loving Captain of the 5th division. He was admired and liked by many, and adored by his Vice Captain. One night he was found pined to a wall with his own Zanpaku, dead. It appears that his death was the part of some internal conspiracy in Soul Society, and he left a letter to his Vice, but the mystery is far from being solved.
